Clayton Davis's FULL PROFILE
Clayton Davis - Managing Director
Stacks/The Law Firm, Southern Highlands
Bowral
Admitted as a lawyer in 1997, Clayton is a skilled strategic thinker whose commitment to client service and attention to detail are behind the optimum results he achieves for his clients.
Clayton’s commercial skills have been honed in the UK and Australia with large legal practices. He previously worked with large Sydney firms, and a large Australasian law firm, as well as a London law firm and as an Investigative Examiner in the Company Director’s Disqualification Unit of Companies House in London.
A large part of Clayton’s practice is advising on disputes and litigation, including property, planning and commercial disputes.
By asking the right questions, and listening carefully, Clayton quickly gets to the heart of his clients’ concerns. He is then able to develop the strategies his clients need to reach the best outcomes.
Clayton’s record in achieving successful results is shown by his success in obtaining a judgment in excess of $20 million for Brescia Furniture in the Supreme Court in proceedings against QBE Insurance. He also successfully defended a District Court claim for over $210,000 for the settlement sum of $5,000.
Clayton's property and conveyancing work covers all aspects of commercial property transactions. This includes sales and leases, intergenerational rural transfers, advice on water rights and subdivisions, as well as easements, rights of access, notice of death, and liquor licensing.
When advising his business clients, Clayton draws on his legal skills and experience to determine strategies that reflect their commercial goals and the realities of their situations.
He advises his clients on the ins and outs of their commercial arrangements, including business structures and succession plans, contracts, intellectual property, franchise law, leases and disputes.
With Clayton’s experience on both sides of the insolvency and bankruptcy spectrum, he knows how best to manage such matters.
His insolvency and bankruptcy experience goes back to his work in the UK, when he was part of a team defending Bank of America against wrongful trading proceedings brought by the Liquidators of BCCI in the High Court of England. At that time, this was the largest proceedings ever conducted in the UK courts.
Clayton advises his clients on how to protect their assets and ensure they are bequeathed to the right people in the event of their death or family breakdown. He takes the time to appreciate precisely what it is they want, and need, to achieve, and in return Clayton’s clients value his pragmatism and straightforwardness.
Director of Stacks/Williams Oats in Bowral, Clayton works with a cross-section of the local business community and with individuals on their wide-ranging legal issues.
He is an avid sports fan, following cricket, golf and Australian Rules, and he is a keen, but irregular, golfer.
