Michelle Martin - Senior Associate
Stacks/Goudkamp
Martin Place, Sydney
Michelle specialises in Compensation law for individuals, conducting matters for clients in NSW. She commenced employment with Stacks/Goudkamp in 1996, and has been a practicing solicitor for 11years. Michelle’s expertise lies in handling Motor Vehicle Accident and Public Liability matters. A member of the Australian Lawyers Alliance and the Law Society of NSW, she is an efficient member of the Stacks team with a warm and caring approach to injured clients.
Michelle has handled many major catastrophic injury cases. She acted for twelve people who were injured in a bus crash in Albury, a complex matter which received a great deal of media attention. The bus driver, who had a complicated medical history of diabetes, had an epileptic fit at the wheel. Michelle acted against both the insurance company and the bus driver’s treating neurologist, who had given the all-clear for his patient to drive, obtaining very good financial results for her clients. She also worked on a reported case, Keane v Caravan City Cowra, involving a client who was injured in a caravan park when he was struck by the flue of an old steam engine that fell on top of him. This matter was won in the Supreme Court and ended up with a successful settlement for her client.
Michelle has been involved in a number of major claims for children injured in motor vehicle accidents. She finds these cases particularly rewarding and enjoys getting to know the family very well.
Michelle often travels to see clients, both in Sydney and further afield, visiting accident sites and meeting with witnesses, doctors, family and friends of the accident victim. She has acted for many clients with brain injuries and is extremely patient and compassionate in her dealings with all clients. Michelle has also acted for international clients who have suffered injury whilst in Australia on holiday, including clients in the UK, New Caledonia and Ireland.
Michelle presented a joint seminar on the Civil Liability Act at the APLA State Conference (Australian Plaintiff Lawyers Association) in 2003, and also at the Young Lawyers Association in Newcastle and Parramatta.
The mother of three young children, in her spare time Michelle claims to do “a lot of walking!” with husband and pram. A member of her local playgroup, she is also involved in various school and pre-school associations. Michelle enjoys socialising with family and friends.
Michelle is an experienced solicitor whose friendly personality ensures that her clients are made to feel at ease.
