Lawyers from Port Macquarie’s Stacks/The Law Firm are taking the lead when it comes to providing legal advice for those injured at work.
Senior director Jason Smith and associate director Jodie Thurgood have been appointed to key new posts with WorkCover – providing free legal advice to injured workers who have had their claims rejected or challenged by insurers.
Their extensive experience and stellar reputations with workers compensation law saw the pair appointed to the prestigious positions.
As Approved Legal Service Providers for WorkCover’s new Independent Legal Assistance and Review Service, they will provide free independent legal advice to injured workers with a reasonably arguable case against an insurer.
The service is part of changes to the WorkCover scheme brought in by the NSW Government in June.
Under the changes, an injured worker who disagrees with a decision by an insurer may complain to WorkCover’s Independent Legal Assistance and Review Service.
Maurie Stack OAM, chairman of Stacks Law Firm, said the appointment of two lawyers from the law firm in Port Macquarie as approved legal service providers for the region was recognition of their excellent reputation.
“You have to have a high level of expertise and a good reputation to be approved for these new positions and we are very pleased to be able to provide this service,” Mr Stack said.
