President of the Taree and District Eisteddfod Society, Tim Stack, officially opened the 44th annual eisteddfod with words of encouragement for the “stars” of the show.
The six week cultural competition kicked off on Wednesday with the vocal section and Mr Stack took the time to thank all the organisers and volunteers who spend countless hours putting together the program and dedicating hours of their own time for the youth in and around our area.
“There are so many people we have to thank ? the army of great teachers from all sections of the eisteddfod who are just marvellous with their encouragement of the students and all that they do,” he said.
“To the parents who give them the opportunity and support them through their performances because it’s a very nerve racking thing to be up here and it’s great to see that support.
“These performers carry the confidence they learn here, through with them into their jobs and adulthood.”
Tim also noted that the Taree and District Eisteddfod is now one on the biggest in Australia, costing more than $100,000 to run over the six weeks.
“Without the help of all the people involved it would not happen, especially the sponsors who help to keep entry fees down so that more and more people can participate,” he said.
“Because after all, the competitors of today are the stars of tomorrow.”
