Astrid works in the Stacks Heard McEwan office in Wollongong. Her principal areas of work are litigation, debt recovery, bankruptcy and insolvency.
She was admitted as a solicitor in October 2013 and speaks Spanish as a second language.
Astrid has strong advocacy skills that she developed in her time at the NSW Crime Commission, where she worked as a legal assistant and solicitor. She has appeared before justices of the Supreme Court of NSW, as well as registrars and magistrates of the local and district courts of Sydney. Astrid has also instructed Queen’s Counsel for final hearings and interlocutory proceedings.
Some of the interesting legal work she was involved in at the NSW Crime Commission included being responsible for proceedings where the defendant was either deceased or subject to an arrest warrant, having left the country prior to arrest. Astrid would prepare the proceedings for final hearing, relying on the police brief for evidence.
Astrid also has experience in confiscations litigation pursuant to the Criminals Assets Recovery Act 1990, and in debt recovery litigation, insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings. She has a keen interest in developing her skills in all aspects of commercial law, including employment law.
Astrid is organised and methodical in her approach. She is very keen to learn new areas of law and to expand her knowledge and skills through hard work. She is a good communicator, placing great importance on listening to her clients to understand them and their legal requirements.
When not working, Astrid likes to surround herself with family and friends who make her laugh. She has a four-legged son – a cheeky Maltese Terrier called Spike – and is a proud aunty to two nieces and a nephew. Astrid enjoys watching movies and television shows of all genres, but loves superhero movies in particular. She is also a collector of pop vinyls, which no-one ever expects of a lawyer.
Astrid believes in being actively engaged in her community. Her family participates in the Relay for Life in Wollongong every year and also hosts a Biggest Morning Tea at home.
