John has over 40 years of experience in law, working in general and commercial litigation as well as criminal law. He specialises in aviation law and advises clients on all aviation matters. He is also a local court arbitrator, undertaking civil arbitration in the local court and under the Commercial Arbitration Act.
John has successfully conducted commercial arbitration in aviation matters in the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Full Court of the Federal Court.
He has written legal aviation articles for Australian Pilot magazine, the journal of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association. Topics covered include advice to readers who are purchasing aircraft from overseas, general aviation legal matters and an overview of the law as it applies to aircraft.
John’s knowledge of aviation is practical as well as theoretical: he owns and operates his own aircraft and was previously a director of a regional airline which operated throughout south-western New South Wales.
Outside work, John is a family man with four children, two stepchildren and many grandchildren. He enjoys flying his aircraft and when his feet are on the ground, he enjoys restoring houses.
A Rotarian for the past 30 years, John is now a member of Tamworth First Light Rotary. He is also involved with Youth Insearch, attending camps, mentoring and providing guidance to troubled youth. John undertakes pro bono work for the Cancer Council and is also a mentor driver to disadvantaged learner drivers through Tamworth’s JobLinkPlus.
