Megan is an Associate in the Sydney office and has been with the firm since 2015. Megan has a first class honours degree in law and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with a high distinction average. She is currently undertaking her Master of Laws at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Megan works in personal injury law, with a particular focus on public liability claims involving complex issues of negligence and sexual abuse claims. She commenced working in this area as a paralegal.
Megan likes working in personal injury, as she is able to help people repair their lives and build their future after going through a traumatic experience. She gains a lot of satisfaction from being a part of that process and being able to use her skills and knowledge in a way that makes a difference in her clients’ lives.
She has worked on a number of cases with her supervising solicitors, Tom Goudkamp and Alexander Morrison, in which they have helped achieve compensation for survivors of sexual abuse. The clients in these cases have taught Megan a lot about resilience and the importance of a human approach in being a lawyer, so she is able to support her clients in both legal and non-legal ways.
Megan is a critical thinker, with great attention to detail and a strong focus on outcomes for her clients. She ensures all avenues are explored and all evidence is obtained. Megan is solutions-focused and always approaches her problems with a view that they are capable of being solved. She is empathetic and a good listener.
Her particular strengths are in legal research and keeping across changes in the law and issues that may affect her clients. Her research interests are in family violence and law reform around this problem, both in the family and the criminal sphere. She completed her honours thesis on the topic of family violence and property division on the conclusion of a marriage or de facto relationship.
Megan is also interested in law reform in tort law generally. She endeavours to stay up to date with proposals in all areas handled by Stacks Goudkamp, including motor vehicle accidents, workers compensation, medical negligence and general negligence.
As the first lawyer in her family, Megan had never really considered a career in law or thought it was one she could enter into. She commenced working at Stacks Goudkamp and immediately knew that being a lawyer and helping injured individuals was what she wanted to do with her life.
Megan enjoys spending time with her cat and keeping active by going to the gym. She is hoping to commence some volunteer work with a local hospital in the near future.
