Some common questions about employment law:

It is a legal agreement between the employer and the employee when someone begins a new job. It includes the rights of the employee and the obligations of the employer. The contract can have a fixed term (ie. a definite ending) or be indefinite. It’s important to note that a contract can be written, verbal, or a combination.

It is Australia’s national workplace relations tribunal and operates under the Fair Work Act 2009. The FWC carries out many functions such as resolving workplace disputes and providing remedies for unfair dismissal.

No. You can lodge an application with the FWC yourself. The advantage of seeking legal advice is that you will have expert assistance understanding the process, and in gathering evidence and preparing for your hearing (if required.) The FWC can’t provide you with legal advice.
